How To Create a Dreamy Guest Bedroom

With the upcoming holidays around the corner, there is a good chance you will be hosting a few guests in your home. What better way to welcome them than a beautiful, cozy and functional guest suite? It doesn’t have to be perfect, but I am here to give you a few tips to make your guests feel loved and appreciated.

  1. Layer on the Comfy Bedding

This is the most important part of your guest experience! We all have that pillow we would take everywhere to sleep with, and we have slept in a hotel with horrible pillows. Buy a few different types of pillows - firm, medium, and a down fill, or a down alternative would be my choices. Then, give a couple of choices in blankets. Here, we layered a soft, cotton coverlet from Pine Cone Hill as a lightweight alternative to the filled duvet cover. You could put an extra blanket in the closet for those chilly nights!

2. Provide a Chair or Small Work Area

If at all possible, provide a place for your guests to put on their shoes, reply to emails, or read a book. In this guest bedroom, we didn’t have the space for a lounge chair, so we went with double duty desk/nightstand and a cute side chair to go with it. We have a few items like a fun pad of paper and some pens inside the desk drawers. Your guests will love having this simple, yet lovely and functional area.

3. Provide a Bedside Lamp with a 3-way Switch

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of any space and giving this soft alternative to the overhead light is a must! Make sure the lamp is tall enough to read with. This means that if your bedside table is 30” high, your table lamp should be around 28”-30” high. By the way, if your nightstands are only 24” high, they are probably too short. Do you see how the table top aligns with the mattress top? That is what you want. So you see how this table is wider than the typical 24” wide nightstand you see in the big box stores? This will give you room for not only that cool lamp, but you could have a clock and place to set the phone on without feeling cramped. I digress, this is supposed to be about lighting! Give your guests a great table lamp or even two!!

4. Provide a Bathroom With all the Extra Toiletries

When I go to visit my mom and dad, my mom always has this basket below the sink with all the fun, travel size toiletries. I love it! If I have forgotten my face wash or razor, no worries! This is such an inexpensive and fun way to tell your guests you love them. A hairdryer is one other nice addition to keep here. Side note, when we get closer to the holidays, you will notice that Ulta has their premium travel beauty products at amazing prices! Go the extra mile to get a fun smelling lotion, hair mousse or the best tweezers! I love to say “Details Make the Difference” and these are some fun ones to bless your loved ones with when they are in your home.

5. Give Your Guests A Great Shower Nozzle

Admit it, you are in a hotel room and it may be gorgeous, but the shower has no water pressure and you can’t get the shampoo out of your hair. Or, you are in a hotel room that may need a little updating but the shower rocks!! What is better? The one with the amazing shower! And I do love a gorgeous room, but the shower is important. When was the last time you took a shower in your guest bath? Do that this weekend and let me know how it is. We now have the ability to upgrade the shower nozzle and give several different sprays to choose from. I love this Dryden design from Delta faucets. Delta has engineered the water flow to feel like it always has high water pressure and I love it!

When we designed this guest bedroom suite, we went bold on color. Why not? It gives a memorable experience and a fun color palette that you might not use elsewhere. Don’t be afraid of color! You will love it and your guests will too!

I hope you have a great time preparing your guest bedroom suite and heaping on the hospitality for your guests!
