Mastering Monochrome

I chose several complementary tiles for this luxurious walk-in shower. The varying tiles add texture to the master bathroom. Design by Studio Steidley.

Finishing Touches

Details make the difference, so it’s important that every single item in the room is given careful attention. In the bathroom, installing gorgeous wall sconces adds a lot of personality. They immediately upgrade the look of the space.

I also love layering in special mirrors, especially in bathrooms. They reflect the color of the room, contributing to the monochromatic look, but are also practical. Everyone needs a mirror in this space! My designs use mirrors in original and unexpected ways, like choosing a large 42” vanity mirror for spaces with high ceilings. If we can do a custom mirror or a very unique mirror, this becomes such a special element and something the homeowner enjoys each day.

Finally, even though monochrome spaces are designed to center on one color, it’s important to add a little contrast. I like choosing accents, florals and fabrics that introduce a complementary color to keep the monochromatic look dimensional.

This monochromatic master bath has a few of my favorite elements: wall sconces, a framed mirror and geometric floor tiles. Together, they give the space depth. Design by Studio Steidley.
